Julia Himmel of Quincy, a junior at Fontbonne Academy in Milton, has been awarded a National Silver Medal for Photography from the Alliance for Young Writers and Artists/Scholastic Art &#38; Writing Awards 2012.</p>
<p>More than 100,000 students submitted 200,000 works to be considered for the Awards this year. Top regional works received Gold Keys and were honored at a regional awards ceremony this month at John Hancock Hall in Boston. </p>
<p>All Gold Key works were entered into the national level of the competition. More than 13,000 Gold Key works were considered for national awards, and approximately 1,500 were ultimately selected for Gold and Silver Medals at the national level.</p>
<p>Scholastic Awards medalists will be celebrated at a National Awards Ceremonyat Carnegie Hallin New York on June 2. The ceremony will be the highlight of a three-day National Awards Celebration, in which winners from across the country will participate in a Student Showcase Exhibition and attend a reception at Parsons the New School for Design."</p>
